frequently asked questions
Why Gulf Shores?
Everyone at Kaleo works a full-time job so they can make money and also grow as a leader as they apply what they are learning in a real life environment. There are only a few places in the United States where we can be guaranteed that anyone who attends the Kaleo project will be employed for just nine weeks. Businesses on the Gulf Coast are specifically looking for employees during these weeks of the year because of the high tourism traffic during the summer season. This makes Gulf Shores, Alabama a great location for Kaleo.
Why nine weeks?
Experience has shown that nine weeks is the perfect length of time for a summer project. It gives about four weeks at home on the front and back end of summer break while also giving ample time to build habits, develop in leadership, and grow spiritually at Kaleo. We want to see people make lifelong gains in character growth, initiative-taking, leadership skills, social aptitude, and owning responsibilities rather than just making changes for a month or two. We believe that nine weeks is enough time for a student to truly take substantial steps in these areas.
Is Kaleo just a place for my kid to relax at the beach for nine weeks?
The heartbeat of Kaleo is to help men and women mature, develop and grow in their faith as leaders. Kaleo has often been likened to an internship because of the schedule and pace of the summer. There will be plenty of opportunities for your son or daughter to have fun (go to social events, take a road trip, and of course hit up the beach, etc.), but Kaleo is so much more than that! At Kaleo, our goal is to develop future leaders. The schedule is designed to assist your son or daughter in developing their character, leadership, responsibility, and work ethic. Because of this desire, the schedule is full of work, small group interaction, listening to speakers, preparing and leading small group discussions, and more.
